What is Homeopathy and how can it help me?
Recognised by the World Health Organisation report in 2005 as the second most popular medical modality, Homeopathy is a therapeutic system which assists the body's natural ability to heal itself. Homeopaths sees illness as a recognition of disharmony within the body and recognise that it is the whole person that needs treating rather than the illness.
Homeopathy was originally devloped by Samuel Hahnemann over 200 years ago.
"The highest ideal of cure is the speedy, gentle, and enduring restoration of health by the most trustworthy and least harmful way." -
Samuel Hahnemann, founder of Homeopathy
Homeopathy emphasises the importance of treating individuals as individuals and of understanding the whole person as opposed to only understanding a single "diseased part". In this way it acts not by superficially supressing symptoms, but aims to bring about health and vitality by healing the individual from within.
- It works on the principle that 'like treats like'. An illness is treated with a medicine which could produce similar symptoms in a healthy person.
- The active ingredients are given in highly diluted form to avoid toxicity. Homeopathic remedies are virtually 100% safe.
- It works in a dynamic way influencing the bodies energy
- Prescribing is based on all aspects of a individual's condition. The individual's personality and lifestyle are important.
- Homeopathy can be used safely alongside conventional medicine.
Homeopathy is one of the most extensively used and trusted complementary system of medicine in the UK. Homeopathy remains the only alternative medicine incorporated into the NHS. This was brought about by an act of parliament in 1952 due to the unparalleled success and reputation homeopathy gained in treating epidemic diseases. The results were so impressive that the Act was passed with the subsequent establishment of 5 NHS Homeopathic hospitals. This Act secures, by law, the provision of homeopathy within the NHS. A 1986 survey by the British Medical Journal showed that 42% of doctors referred patients for homeopathic treatment. A 1990 survey of British pharmacists found that 55% if them considered homeopathic remedies useful.

Homeopathic Basics Kits
Homeopathic starter kits are a great idea to keep handy and have been specially prepared for people who have little or no knowledge of homeopathy but may be enthusiastic to learn a little more about helping themselves to treat minor ailments.
Illness and injury can happen at unpredictable times, often when it may be difficult to get the homoeopathic remedies that you need. The kits usually come with a comprehensive booklet that introduces you to homoeopathy and features an A - Z guide of symptoms that can be treated along with a Materia Medica section describing the main uses of the remedies contained.
In addition you may want a handbook that goes into a little more detail on the remedies.
